19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after March of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a decider.

He defended four initial chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
